These seem to be getting popular more and more. It's just another social engineering tool when you think about it. People now go to bars or clubs and instead of conversing with each other face to face over music, now everyone wears headphones listening to what a DJ plays and conversation is impossible. Not that all those numerous flat screen TVs in bars weren't doing the same kind of damage. Silent Discos take the insanity to a whole new level. What's the point? Why go somewhere to have your ears plugged with music dancing with other people whose same ears are plugged listening to music. Those without the headphones hear no music but hearing people singing and dancing to their own voices or a room full of people dancing to nothing. As you can tell in the video, if you don't wear the headphones the sounds of people singing poorly are heard. It's pure craziness.
Also according to Wikipedia this was predicted in 1967 in a Japanesse science fiction "Astroboy's 1967 japanese science fiction story The Summer of 1993, where the titular character attends a party where everyone wears headphones."
